Sports betting in Montana
Online and retail sports betting is currently legal in Montana, which has been the case since the enactment of Bill H275 in May 2019, with sports betting officially launching in the state just under a year late. March 2020.
There are currently a number of places to place your in-person sports bets in the Treasure state. However, since online sports betting in Montana is governed by the state lottery, there is only one online bookmaker to place bets with: Sports Bet Montana.
Given that this has been the case since betting became legal in the state, it’s hard to see the Montana State Lottery loosening its grip on the sports betting scene in the state anytime soon.

Sports betting is fully legal and permitted in the state of Montana, with people in the state able to bet on sports since March 2020 following the legalization of sports betting in May 2019.
The Montana Department of Justice is currently responsible for regulating and governing sports betting, both retail and online, in the state treasury, which it has been since its introduction last year.

The state of Montana saw a pretty big drop in the amount of money wagered on sports in the state treasury towards the end of the summer.
July saw 32% less money wagered on sports than June, in part due to a lack of sports markets on offer as leagues such as the NHL, NBA and NFL were all in the offseason.
This has increased over the following months given the start of the NFL, NBA and NHL seasons, all of which are continuing and should provide Montana with healthy revenue numbers in the new year.
Montana Sports Betting History
Montana had offered a lottery long before sports betting was made legal in the state treasury, but until very recently sports betting was completely illegal in the state of Montana.
This was the case until very recently, when the state decided to move towards the legalization of sports betting after the denunciation of PASPA in 2018.
It took only a year for sports betting to become legal in the state, after Bill H275 was enacted in May 2019, with sports betting then officially launching just under a year in late March 2020 .
In the process, Montana became the first state in 2019 to allow online and retail sports betting, with state residents allowed to use lottery kiosks and sports betting apps to bet on sports after the legalization of sports betting in the state.
