NJ Online Casino September Turnover Hits $ 122 Million, All-Time High
It may sound like a record broken, but the NJ online casino industry has set another all-time high for September 2021. The state Gambling Law Enforcement Division published on last digits earlier this week. NJ’s online casinos revenue portion of totals amounts to $ 122.6 million.
This is the first time in the nearly eight-year history of the Internet gaming industry in NJ that the monthly number has exceeded $ 120 million. Plus, it takes July’s $ 118.7 million out of the top spot.
And for those keeping an eye out, it’s been eight of the nine months in which NJ online casino revenue has crossed the $ 100 million mark. Here’s the updated list of the top five months of all time, all of this year:
- September: $ 122.6 million
- July: $ 118.7 million
- March: $ 113.7 million
- August: $ 113.2 million
- January: $ 103.8 million
The reality is that several factors are contributing to this new standard of $ 100 million per month. Moreover, the overall total was not the only record to drop in September. Here’s a closer look at the five reasons why NJ’s online casinos continue to set revenue records.
1. The sportsbook handful broke $ 1 billion, so …
New Jersey has a reputation for setting the national trend in online check-ins. This is especially the case when it comes to NJ sports betting. The headline of the week is of course how the Garden State became the first American legal sports betting jurisdiction in bring in over $ 1 billion in monthly salary. Yes, this includes Nevada.
Out of $ 1.011 billion in betting, $ 918.4 million came from mobile apps.
Keep in mind that the majority of the 22 sports betting platforms include slots and table games. This is where the shared wallet and cross selling come into play. Some operators will offer customers weekly promotions in which playing at the casino may include a free sports bet.
Of course, many soccer bettors often play the casino game of their choice while waiting for the sportsbook to pay off. And with the NFL betting season just starting, that trend will most likely continue throughout Super Bowl Sunday.
2. GNOG Breaks All-Time $ 1 Billion In Revenue
Sticking to the broken record theme, there’s one big step that a lot of people probably haven’t even noticed. If you look at the all-time income chart (see below) Golden Nugget online games (GNOG) the total of all times has exceeded $ 1 billion. This dates back to the 2013 launch of the NJ online casino business. They are the first and only licensee to achieve this mark so far.
It is PlayNJ’s understand that a large part of this number comes from the Golden Nugget Online Casino application. NJ does not break down the results by operator, so it’s hard to say exactly how many. Today, it is one of six brands operating under license. Sugar house, Stardust, and FanDuel are some of the others. Betway Casino is the most recent, launched in August.
For September, GNOG reported over $ 31 million of sales, up 19.5% compared to the same period last year. Since the start of the year, GNOG has grossed $ 276.3 million, which ranks No.2 behind Borgata / BetMGM ($ 302.5 million).

3. Another NJ Online Casino Record Performance for BetMGM, Borgata
So if someone were to ask in January if an NJ online casino license holder would report over $ 40 million in one month, what would you have said? Well, that still hasn’t happened, but the storyline is getting closer and closer to reality.
The “nearest” refers to how Borgata, directed by BetMGM and Borgata online casinos, continues to move closer ($ 38.2 million) to the number. Remember, it wasn’t that long ago that a $ 40 million month for the entire market was considered a really big deal. Amazing how quickly these trends can change.
The Owned by MGM Borgata has been the dominant player when it comes to Atlantic City revenue. And this year, they’ve moved away from the online pack. The 123.2% percentage increase (up from $ 135.5 million year-to-date) speaks volumes. Borgata is the only license holder to experience a triple-digit year-over-year increase. Ocean Casino Resort is the next closest at 48%, but they only earned $ 11.2 million for 2021.
As for September, here’s a look at how Borgata / BetMGM stack up against the other seven licensees:
|Licensee||Total income||Casino revenues||Poker income||State tax||Local tax|
|Borgata||$ 38,224,449||$ 37,203,243||$ 1,021,206||$ 5,733,667||$ 955,611|
|Gold nugget||$ 31,069,899||$ 31,069,899||$ 0||$ 4,660,485||$ 776,747|
|Resorts||$ 28,386,004||$ 27,720,196||$ 665,808||$ 4,257,901||$ 709,650|
|Caesars||$ 10,179,606||$ 9,374,719||$ 804,887||$ 1,526,941||$ 254,490|
|Tropicana||$ 7,206,206||$ 7,206,206||$ 0||$ 1,080,931||$ 180,155|

4. Do the Resorts benefit from Barstool Casino?
Regardless of the month, the top three stayed pretty much the same with an occasional swap of orders. Digital stations, the online branch of Resorts in Atlantic City, is number 3. The portfolio includes DraftKings Casino and PokerStars brands as well as the application of the company’s brand.
they reported $ 28.4 million for September, which is a jump of almost 42% from September 2020. Plus, this is a new monthly high for them, breaking the previous bar of $ 23.3 million set in July.
The result could be attributed to one of the most recent additions on the market, Casino stool. In addition to being the fifth and final skin under the Resorts license, Barstool has a national audience, especially on social media. Another clue that the product is quickly establishing an NJ customer base comes from the Tour in full ownership sports betting numbers. Barstool Sportsbook operates under license (online casinos are not permitted to operate under an NJ racetrack license).
Declared property $ 4.3 million in September sales. It was the first full month for Barstool NJ. And if we compare this result to August, when Freehold reported $ 885,094, the proof is clearly in the numbers. And that’s yet another example of how the cross-selling model works.
Expect Barstool’s growth to continue as Penn National recently launched a NJ Branded Bar Stool Live Selling Studio.
5. One billion dollars a year for the NJ online casino business is coming
Of course, all of this lays the foundation for the biggest record yet. When the October figures are released next month, a number exceeding $ 1 billion will appear under the total online casino revenue since the start of the year. NJ has already struck $ 988.7 million for 2021.
And that’s pretty much a guarantee that Garden State has unofficially hit the mark already. Think about it, we’re talking about less than $ 12 million for an industry that spends $ 100 million month after month after month.
Next month will also mark the eighth birthday the launch of the NJ online casino. Talk about perfect timing.
The current number is already huge. At the same time last year, total revenue was $ 685.6 million. That’s a 44.2% difference from year to year.
The total for last year came to $ 970.3 million. So yet another example of New Jersey being in new record territory.
Will NJ’s online casino business ever slow down? It certainly won’t be any time in the near future.
